Quirky Quolls is a year old!

Wow the last few months have been a whirlwind!

Getting my own business up and running over the past year(ish) has been a journey and remains a work in progress. Like myself, Quirky Quolls continues to grow and abate, flourish and flounder. All the time, it somehow moves forward and becomes bigger and stronger.

After a slow burn in the first half of 2024, I suddenly got a flurry of clients towards the end of the year, which allowed me to quit my Day Job. My timing has been Interesting to say the least.

Like many neurodivergent people, I am intelligent, and creative but a bit of a square peg. I have a string of qualifications, but…don’t quite tick the right professional boxes to work as psychologist (“wrong masters”) and with incoming changes in the counselling profession, soon may not have the “right degree” to call myself a “counsellor”. (But that’s a whole other Blog).

As part of Quirky Quolls, I provide NDIS support coordination services. Many of my clients are autistic and/or have a psychosocial disability (to use NDIS language). There are lots of changes and accompanied uncertainty happening in that space too.

So, I am harnessing my creativity and perseverance to explore ways to best support people to navigate life within changing contexts and spaces.

I’m currently appraising how best to support people to authentically navigate their lives in times of change. I’m currently upskilling my narrative therapy skills, and look forward to incorporating these skills into my therapy practice.

As part of my NDIS support coordination role, I have been increasingly upskilling and coaching participants about navigating NDIS, mainstream and community services and supports.

I have a also just started running affordable community workshops. On Sunday, I ran my first wellbeing workshop - Journalling for Mindfulness - with my friend and colleague, Jules Turnbull. I loved our blend of traditional, evidence-based and mind body spirit approaches.

The most satisfying part for me was creating a space where people felt safe to share thoughts, feelings and ideas. I’m looking forward to co-hosting the March 2025 workshop about Self-Compassion and Self-Care.
