About me…

Hi! My name is Phoebe Kearey!

I created Quirky Quolls as a safe space that affirms diversity in all its forms; where people are empowered to make life changes according to their own values; where they can embrace their strengths and be supported to make choices about how to live in the world.

My approach draws upon my education and experience in psychology, counselling and health promotion. I use an eclectic blend of evidence-based techniques, including person-centred, narrative, and solution-focused therapies, as well as motivational interviewing.

I also bring more than 25 years of professional experience in public policy and medical research around chronic health conditions. More recently, I have provided face-to-face, phone and Web-based support to hundreds of autistic people and their families.

I have taken the long way round and worked in a variety of professional health and community service settings. I’ve seen the benefits and limitations of both the medical and the social models and have learned when to use different strategies and techniques through professional and life experience.

My practices are:

  • Person-centred / family-centred

  • Diversity / neurodiversity -affirming

  • LGBTQIA+ friendly
